UnCategorized Vinod Khanna is one of the famous veteran Bollywood actors living today. After almost four decades in Hindi film industry, Khanna is still going strong and still acts in films at the age of 64. He has acted in all genres of films including action, thriller, .edy, romantic and so on. Early Life Vinod Khanna was born on 6th October 1946, to KC and Kamla Khanna at Peshawar, now in Pakistan. Khanna’s father was a businessman who dealt in textiles, dyes chemicals. Khanna has three sisters and one brother, who all grew up in a joint family. Khanna shifted through Queen Mary’s School, Barnes School (Deolali) and St. Xaviers High School. He .pleted his graduation in .merce from Sydenham College at Church gate, Mumbai. At the age of 22, Khanna entered in Bollywood as an actor. Acting Career Vinod started off his acting career in Adurthi Subba Rao’s MAN KA MEET (1968) opposite Jeevan and Leena Chandavarkar. His character was that of a villain. He continued to play supporting actor and villain roles. Some hit films in which Vinod acted as a supporting actor include PURAB AUR PASCHIM (1970) directed by Manoj Kumar, SACHAA JHUTHA directed by Manmohan Desai and MERA GAON MERA DESH directed by Raj Khosla. Vinod was also seen in NATEEJA (1969), MASTANA (1970) AAN MILO SAJNA (1970) and RESHMA AUR SHERA (1971). Vinod got his big break as a lead actor in Gulzar directed film MERE APNE (1971). Now that he had got his grip in Bollywood, Vinod went on to star in many Hindi films as a lead actor. In 1973, he starred in total 7 films. Vinod acted in Sultan Ahmed’s PYAAR KA RISHTA (1973) opposite Mumtaz; Harmesh Malhotra’s GADDAR (1973) opposite Yogita Bali; AAROP (1973) opposite Saira Banu and KUCHHE DHAAGE (1973) opposite Moushumi Chatterjee. ACHANAK (1973) directed by Gulzar, was one of the pivotal films in Vinod’s acting career. He played the character of Major Ranjeet Khanna, who is sentenced to death for murdering his wife, but goes through many emotional ups and downs before being hanged. ACHANAK (1973) was critically acclaimed and Vinod’s performance was highly praised. Vinod also starred as a supporting actor in ANOKHI ADA (1973) along with Jeetendra, Rekha and Padma Khanna. Vinod’s number of films per year went on decreasing as his place in Bollywood heightened steadily. He starred in only five films in the year 1974-FAREBI (1974), CHOWKIDAR (1974), IMTIHAN (1974), PATTHAR AUR PAYAL (1974) and HAATH KI SAFAI (1974). Harmesh Malhotra’s PAYAL AUR PATTHAR (1974) was a multi-starrer action film, based on the life of bandits. Vinod played the character of Sarju, who gives up his bandit life to relocate in a city and live peacefully. Vinod’s co-stars for the film were Hema Malini, Ajit and Dharmendra. HAATH KI SAFAI (1974) starring Randhir Kapoor and Hema Malini was Vinod’s last film for 1974. He scored Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for this film. Raj Khosla’s PREM KAHANI (1975) was a multi starrer film about a love story which gets caught in India’s struggle for freedom. Vinod played the supporting character of Sher Khan in the movie. The film also starred Shashi Kapoor, Mumtaz and Rajesh Khanna. Vinod was next seen in Ravi Chopra’s ZAMEER (1975), in a supporting role along with Amitabh Bachchan, Shammi Kapoor and Saira Banu. QAID (1975) was a suspense thriller directed by Atma Ram. Vinod was seen in the lead role of Advocate Jai Saxena, who gives shelter to a convicted murderer, in this movie. MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR (1978) was a path breaking film directed by Prakash Mehra. The movie starred Bollywood’s big names including Amitabh, Rakhee, Amjad Khan and Kader Khan along with Vinod. MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR (1978) was a through and through Bollywood masala film and proved to be one of the top three grossing hits of 1970’s decade. Vinod scored a nomination as Filmfare Best Supporting Actor for this film. In the same year, Vinod starred in to ‘bandit’ films, Sunil Dutt’s DAKU AUR JAWAN (1978) along with Sunil Dutt and Reena Roy; and Prakash Mehra’s AAKHRI DAKU (1978) along with Randhir Kapoor, Rekha and Reena Roy.
